 Retina Fellowship

Curriculum

The clinical retina fellowship is a two-year program during which fellows rotate through the LSU Eye Center clinics, the ambulatory surgery center, and three other medical facilities. Fellows work under the supervision of subspecialty-trained attending physicians and are assigned clinical and surgical duties by the faculty. They are introduced to all aspects of the posterior segment of the eye to enhance their skills in examination, diagnosis, treatment, and surgical procedures. The Retina Service offers complete vitreo-retinal capabilities with digital imaging, ICG angiography, OCT, ultrasound, and PDT. In addition, fellows may become involved in the many research projects conducted by the clinical and laboratory science faculty.

Fellows develop their management skills by working closely with the ophthalmology residents and medical students who rotate through the Department. Fellows are responsible for case presentations at monthly conferences, patient management in the Retina Service, resident instruction, participation in didactic lectures, and interpretation of imaging and diagnostic tests of retinal patients.
